Equalities, Diversity and Human Rights Scheme 2009 - 2012

Every three years the Council consults on the development of its Equality Scheme in order to meet the public sector equality duties for race, gender and disability. The Council also has a policy of assuming that these duties apply to other equalities domains like social class, sexual orientation, faith / belief and age. The Council's new scheme,“Fairness and Respect”, incorporates new references to diversity and human rights. It will run from April 2009 to March 2012.

"Fairness and Respect": Equalities, Diversity and Human Rights Scheme (EDHR) 2009 -2012. Describes arrangements for the Scheme.

EDHR Scheme 2009 - 2012: Equalities Outcomes and Action Plan. Describes a range of equalities outcomes and actions which have been developed to focus Council activity on tackling the most persistent inequalities in Edinburgh. The Council will develop and refine this range of outcomes so that they reflect key race, gender, disability, faith / belief, age, social class, carer and sexual orientation equalities goals.

EDHR Scheme 2009 - 2012: Education Policy. The purpose of the Equality Education Policy of the Children and Families Department is to create a single equality policy from the Department’s existing Race Equality Education Policy, Disability Equality Scheme and Gender Equality Scheme.This policy is designed to ensure that the Children and Families Department and all its schools and nurseries are more than compliant with equalities legislation.

EDHR Scheme 2009 - 2012: Education Toolkit. Includes information on appropriate resources and interesting practices.

EDHR Scheme 2009 -2012: Employment Policies and Programmes. Describes the programme of positive action in employment initiatives in relation to the Council's workforce is described below, covering the 5 key principles outlined in the overall “Fairness and Respect” Scheme.

EDHR Scheme 2009 -2012: Equalities Impact Assessment (EQIA) Guidance and Template. Describes arrangements for carrying out EQIAs within the Council.

EDHR Scheme 2009 - 2012: Edinburgh Equalities Network. Describes arrangements for gathering, analysing and utilising Information from Equalities Communities of Interest.

EDHR Scheme 2009 - 2012: Access to Services and Information Policies. Guidelines to ensure access to information and services for equalities groups.

EDHR Scheme 2009 -2012: Equalities in Procurement Policy. Policy to ensure that equalities legal duties are considered as an integral part of all procurement arrangements. NB. these arrangements are currently under review.
