How do I book a repair?

Ordering a repair

You can order a repair by contact our repairs service, Repairs Direct, by calling 200 2345.

You can also report a repair from your local area office where there is a freephone.

Reporting a repair

When you report a repair please give us as much information as possible. This will help us to respond quickly and fix the problem. We need to know:

  • Which item needs repairing or replacing?
  • What is the problem: is it loose, stiff, leaking or broken?
  • Where is it: which room inside or whereabouts outside?
  • Can you describe the item: what type, size, shape or colour is it?
  • What is it made of: wood, metal or plastic?
  • What approximate area or length is affected?
  • Is it causing any other problems or damage?
  • When can we call to do the repair?
  • With this information, we will know what work needs to be carried out and what materials are required.

Emergency Repairs

If you have an emergency outside normal office hours you should ring the Council's Emergency number on 0131 200 2000.

Who carries out the work?

The Council's Edinburgh Building Services carries out the work or specialist contractors.

When is the work carried out?

Work is usually carried out during normal office hours unless it is an emergency. When you contact us about non-emergency repairs we will agree an appointment for a morning (8-12.30pm) or afternoon (12.30-5pm) on a specific day. For emergencies we respond immediately but you must be at home to let the repair worker in.
