Niddrie Mains / Wauchope SquareWhat's Happening?Niddrie Mains is earmarked for demolition and new build; the residents have been rehoused and the demolition work has been done. Those who wished were accommodated in Craigmillar- others took homes elsewhere in Edinburgh, with many keeping a right to return to a new-build home in Craigmillar. Whilst 75% of the 400 new homes planned at Niddrie Mains will be sold, the remaining 100 homes will be rented to those who have been moved because of the regeneration and wish to exercise their right to return to a new build home in Craigmillar. There will also be a new town centre created, slightly east of the present centre. The Masterplanning for this site will include the land up to the Richmond Church. Consultation took place from August 2007 to April 2008. The outline plans have been approved at Planning Committee. The first new homes in Wauchope Square went on sale in April 2008. The PARC sales and info centre on Niddrie Mains Road will assist those interested in buying and can advise on shared equity schemes for those unable to raise the full mortgage.
