What to do if you are homeless or threatened with homelessness

This is a general guide on how the City of Edinburgh Council can help if you are homeless or threatened with homelessness. All local councils have legal duties towards people who are homeless and this page explains how we can help and the types of assistance we can offer.

Anyone who believes they might be homeless is entitled to make an application for assistance from their local council. We recognise that being homeless can be an upsetting and distressing experience and aim to offer a service that will provide the best solution to your housing problems. The advice we give you is free of charge.
