Throughcare and Aftercare ServiceAbout the serviceThe Throughcare and Aftercare service (TcAc) was set up in 2004, following the introduction of new legal requirements, to provide and co-ordinate services to care leavers in Edinburgh. The legal documents are called the Support and Assistance of Young People Leaving Care (Scotland) Regulations 2003. The council has a duty to provide certain services to young people who are looked after or accommodated (in care) at or after their school leaving date and are now between the ages of 16 and 19 and a power to provide services to these young people from age 19 to 21. The council has to provide an individual assessment of young people's needs, listening to their views throughout. They then have to develop, along with the young person, a plan of action and review this at least every 6 months. TcAc uses a pack called Pathways to make sure all young people can access the same standard of service. Pathways covers 7 important areas:
You can view materials and guidance for Pathways on the Scottish Government website. What we doTcAc has a variety of specialist services available to young people through a 'one stop shop' approach. Find out more about the team and the projects we work with. TcAc undertakes one to one work and group work; we have a Drop In on a Tuesday afternoon, along with a Healthy Respect Drop In and the office is a C Card outlet. TcAc has a Monday to Friday office duty system, providing advice to young people, their carers, colleagues and partner agencies during office hours. See the FACe article about the service to find out about a typical day for a TcAc worker. More informationContacts
