Overview and types of cards

The National Entitlement Card scheme (NEC) is owned by the Scottish Government.  The aim of the scheme is to replace the various cards currently available with one electronic smart card, giving access to a range of services and benefits, including transport, education, school meals, discounts, library and leisure services.  The cards can also be used as proof of age for young people.

At present, there are still different cards for different groups of people, depending on your age and circumstances.

Concessionary transport for people over 60 and people with disabilities.  Find out more about Transport Scotland's scheme for access to free public transport across Scotland, local benefits and how to get a card.

Young people.  Find out about the cards available for young people, the range of benefits they give and how to get them.
